Grounded in adventure and accountability, our program is intentionally different. We are a long-term, intentionally designed system of care. Our unique approach and expertise allows us to combine the time-tested 12-steps with oversight, self-efficacy, and a path to independence.

Our Approach

phase 1
rebuild

The journey out of addiction is a long road. Men utilizing Surfside in NJ will rebuild their lives with the help of 12-steps, the goals outlined in our Three-Phase approach, extensive wraparound care, and family education.

phase 2
REDISCOVER

During active addiction, the joys that once were are long gone. Surfside gives men the opportunity to learn to enjoy new activities such as CrossFit, hiking, surfing, kayaking, one-wheeling, weightlifting, playing paintball, yoga, cooking and more.

phase 3
recover

The families and clients will recover from the effects of addiction as a unit. The peer support staff at Surfside in NJ educates clients and families about the healing and tools necessary for lasting recovery. Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint.

WHY SURFSIDE?

Surfside is a comprehensive wraparound approach to recovery for men with substance use disorder and mental health issues.

Our support system is woven around the traditional models of care, enabling us to “bridge the gap” that often exists between clinical care, housing, and real life. The Surfside model closes the loop between different care providers, preventing men from slipping through the cracks.

Surfside NJ is the most comprehensive addiction/recovery operation in the state, delivering unmatched support to men in early recovery from addiction. We are affiliated (although a separate entity) with Surfside Structured Sober Living, the first licensed Cooperative Sober Living Residence in the state by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. Men who elect to reside in Surfside Structured Sober Living are housed in staffed properties at the forefront of safety regulations.

As a comprehensive wraparound service, Surfside provides long term support for men. They’re given the opportunity to REBUILD from the damage caused by drug, alcohol and mental health issues, while minimizing the stress of normal day-to-day life. Surfside in New Jersey offers these individuals a warm community to build a home, where they can REDISCOVER life and the abundance it offers.

Surfside provides life skill development, sports, and activities that build self-esteem. These activities teach young men to use life principles that will help them RECOVER from addiction and alcoholism and, if practiced as a way of life, will help them to become happy and usefully whole.

It’s Time for a Change

The reality is that if people suffering from addiction could stop the consistent torture on their own, they would.

There are hundreds of options for addiction treatment and sober living in NJ and the surrounding states… but do they really provide the structure, support and oversight for these men to survive? Surfside offers a comprehensive wraparound system for men. When coupled with structured sober living and off-site services, many of our clients truly thrive in recovery.

Based on current data about addiction, it is critical that we offer a different approach for men trying to recover from addiction. Designed with intention and informed by research, we focus on teaching men to thrive in independence.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) explains:
  • Approximately 4.3 million Americans used non-medical prescription painkillers in the last month.
  • Close to 1.9 million Americans met the diagnostic criteria for prescription painkiller use disorder based on the amount of drugs they used in the past year.
  • 1.4 million people used prescription painkillers non-medically for the first time in 2014.
  • Most of these individuals used prescription painkillers for the first time around age 21.

Surfside believes staying clean requires determination and a willingness to believe in oneself. Our participants build the self-esteem necessary to succeed at recovery and thrive in the world.

The desire to take action is the only catalyst addicts need to Rebuild, Rediscover and Recover.
